Just came back from an evening of tasting Wegeler wines at The Wine Country.
My conclusions:
1. Damn, these wines are good!
2. Yes, there's a reason why Eiswein, Beerenauslese & Trockenbeerenauslese Rieslings are considered the top end of white wines. And Randy is right when he says many people go through life without tasting these wines, and here we were tasting them, just 22 wine lovers in one place appreciating these noble wines.
3. It's nice to live within 5 miles of a great wine shop.
4. There ARE people that appreciate these great wines.
5. Bernkasteler Doctor - lovely, as always.
It was great to see The Wine Country's proprietor and German wine director Randy conduct a class for wines he loves, and it was fun to be tasting with German Riesling lovers in Long Beach.
Good night!

No one and I mean no one can inspire like Randy. His passion and love for the wines he loves is freaking palpable and leaves you vibrating and longing to know more. So glad it went well!
Hi Samantha,
Oh yes, I know what you mean. I know he inspired me! And the evening went really well. We sold out of 2006 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Gold Cap, and people snapped up BA and TBA wines like they were going out of style! Gorgeous wines, great estate, sorry we won't be representing them in the future, but better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. :)
Nancy,
You have no idea how happy I am to hear that. Fantastic news!
Hi Nancy!
I'm in Germany and would love to visit a winery or 2 or 3... but, I have no idea where to go or what to do here. We are in Stuttgart area, but fly home from Frankfurt on Friday - maybe Thursday we could go North a ways and taste and stay the night before heading to airport on Friday?
Only problem, Thursday may be some kind of German holiday, maybe a problem?
Thanks! and keep blogging about these wonderful wines, makes me jealous!
Jess
Jess, do try to visit a few wineries in the Mosel or Rheinhessen. Monchhof Estate in the Mosel or Gunderloch Estate in the Rheinhessen are some good bets, but call first to make an appointment!
Good luck and have fun.
